Jordi Rosell

Dr. in History and Geography by Rovira i Virgili University from Tarragona, I’m interested in the cultural evolution of the Pleistocene human groups. I am a specialist in Zooarchaeology and Taphonomy, I’m working in several aspects of human behaviour from the faunal records, which can be grouped into two main categories: subsistence strategies and meat diet. In this respect, I’m trying to contribute to evolutionary anthropology from several research lines, such as the identification of the occupational patterns in the sites, hominid-carnivore interactions and the influence of the technological development on the faunal processing patterns, among others.

Currently, I’m developing my research in several Pleistocene sites from the Iberian Peninsula (Atapuerca, Abric Romaní, Gibraltar Caves and Toll Caves) and from Israel (Qesem cave). I’m the director of the project of Home sharing: hominid-carnivore interactions at the North-East of the Iberian Peninsula, which includes the sites of Teixoneres and Toll Caves (Barcelona) and Llenes Cave (Lleida).  In the same way, I’m collaborating on a project about the Neotaphonomy of large carnivores in Europe related to the bears in the Pyrenees. Regarding my docent activity, I’m a teacher of Prehistory of Africa and Zooarchaeology and Taphonomy in the European Master Erasmus Mundus of the Rovira i Virgili University called Quaternary and Prehistory.
